David Johnston was born in Lexington, KY and grew up in Richmond, Virginia, the youngest of three. He was educated at William & Mary, and went through actor training at Circle in the Square. He has lived in New York for a while now. In the fall or early '07, his full length play "Candy & Dorothy" will be remounted in New York, and there is also a production of his adaptation of "The Oresteia" for '07. He has five nieces and nephews, one-great niece, one great-nephew, and a third on the way.

David says, "I'm not sure how I got to be a playwright. I had been an actor for awhile, and it just seemed like a natural extension for me."
